Suffered her disability in a train accident in January of 2001 (left leg, below the knee) / She had her left leg amputated after an accident in January 2001. She was trying to board a train from Philadelphia to New York, and slipped and fell onto the track. The train conductor heard her cries too late and pulled out of the station on to her leg. Despite trying for hours, rescue workers couldn't lift the train and her leg couldn't be saved. (espn.go.com, 05 April 2012)
