Maddie Rooney signs 2 year deal with PWHL Minnesota

December 8, 2023 - Maddie Rooney signs an agreement with the Minnesota Professional Women’s Hockey League and agrees to terms on a two-year deal to keep her with her hometown PWHL squad. Contract figures were not released by the League.

Maddie went undrafted in the inaugural PWHL Draft and selected Minnesota as her target to attend their training camp where she subsequently made the team out of camp.

Rooney, a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth and native of Andover (in the Minneapolis-St Paul twin cities region) and has been a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team program from 2017-2022 has a resume that includes an Olympic Gold & Silver medal and 2 IIIHF Women’s World Championships. Rooney backstopped the United States to their first Gold medal in 20 years with a dramatic shootout win over Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
